Need help with my dog!

Lola is about two months old and I need to know when is the proper time to start leaving her alone at home and what should I give her so she can entertain herself while my boyfriend and I are gone.

Im just a sucker cause I hate to hear her crying, that's why she sleeps right next to our bed... but I know Im doing more harm than actually helping the situation for the transition....

Two months is plenty of time to leave her home alone.

And yes sorry to say but the sleeping next to your bed (right now) is doing more harm than good. Once she's more used to you two being gone then I think it's perfectly fine to allow her to sleep in your room from time to time.

Do you not ever leave her home alone now? Do both of you work? I would find it nearly impossible to make sure someone is ALWAYS there with her.

Maybe you could start with leaving her alone for an hour and a half, go out to lunch, and see how she does. Start off little by little...

As far as to entertain her, chew toys and stuff, are always good but being a dog other than an actual person to stimulate her she will get bored, you just have to be okay with that.

She is never alone.

There was a time when we were working from home, but now we work in separate places.

She is coming with me to work.

In about two months boyfriend will start working again from home.

We had a dog that didn't like to be alone so we would leave the radio on while we were gone and she would be fine.

Leave the TV on Animal Planet. Laughing out loud

Have you considered getting a second dog so Lola would have a friend? That's probably the best solution if this is something you are able to do.

Thanks Lorelei!

Right now what Im thinking asking the neighbors cause they have a little dog too. Apartment is kinda small for two dogs.

Leaving Animal Planet on could be a good idea too.

First of all you are so lucky you get to spend so much time with her!

I give our dogs a treat before we leave, that way the whole separation thing isnt as hard on them because they are preoccupied with the treat. I give them each one of those kong toys with a dog treat in it and a tiny bit of peanut butter.

Also, it helps us out, too because then they arent crying when we leave and it doesnt break my heart as much!

Then we leave the Disney channel on for them, we always use this same channel because I like to think that maybe they are used to all the voices and so maybe it is comforting for them to hear a familiar voice.

Those are basically the tricks that I use! Also, it gets easier as they get older because when they age they like to sleep more so eventually they are glad when you leave because it means they get to take a little nap Smiling
